Wolves Removals non-fragile packing service

Non-Fragile Packing Service

Most of a house move is not china. It is books, clothes, linen, toys, kitchen cupboards, the garage and the loft — the boxes that take the longest and weigh the most. We pack those. You keep back whatever you would rather do yourself.

  • We pack the bulk: books, clothes, linen, kitchen, garage, loft
  • You keep back whatever you want to do yourself
  • One crew, one coordinator — not two firms on one job
  • Our cartons and materials, brought with us

What We Pack, and What You Keep

The trade calls this a part pack or partial packing, and the split is usually drawn around fragility. What almost nobody will tell you is which side each thing falls on, so here it is.

We pack: books and paperwork, clothes and shoes, bed linen and towels, toys and games, kitchen cupboards and dry food, pans, plastics and utensils, garage and shed contents, loft boxes, tools, garden equipment, sports kit, and the contents of wardrobes straight onto hanging rails.

You keep back whatever you want to. Most people hold on to paperwork they are still using, a first-night bag, jewellery and small valuables, medication, laptops and chargers, and anything they would rather nobody else touched. Say so at the survey and those rooms or cupboards are left alone.

Where the breakables go is a separate decision. Plenty of customers have us do the non-fragile bulk and add fragile packing for the kitchen glass and the pictures. Some do the fragile things themselves. Both are fine, and neither costs you the other.

Why the Boring Boxes Are the Ones Worth Handing Over

There is an argument for a part pack that nobody in this trade seems to make, and it is the one that would change most people's minds.

We are fully insured on every job. Where our crew fills the carton, the contents stay inside that cover for the whole journey, because we are the ones who decided how they were wrapped and where they sat in the box. A carton somebody else filled and taped shut is a different proposition: neither we nor an insurer saw what went into it or how, so a breakage inside it is not something anyone can reasonably be held to.

Now count the boxes. Books, clothes, linen, kitchen cupboards, the garage and the loft are the great majority of what leaves a house. If you pack all of that yourself, the majority of your move travels as owner-packed. Handing us the bulk is not the timid half of the decision — it is the half that puts most of your load inside the cover, without paying for a full pack. Your written quote sets out exactly what applies either way.

How a Part Pack Actually Runs

The thing people worry about is the join: two halves of one job, and whose fault it is if they do not meet. In practice it is one crew and one coordinator, not two firms, which removes most of the problem before it starts.

For a typical house we come in the day before the move and work room by room through our half, leaving what you are keeping alone. Every carton is labelled with the room it came from and where it is going. On move day the same crew loads, so nothing has to be explained to anybody: they know which boxes are theirs, which are yours, and what order it all comes off at the other end.

If your dates are tight or the property is large, we will say at the survey whether that needs a second day rather than discovering it at four o'clock. Tell us your completion date at the first conversation — it is the single most useful thing you can give us.

What We Will Not Pack

Worth knowing before the crew arrives, because the honest answer to "will they pack everything?" is no.

For safety we do not carry flammable liquids or gases, and we ask that paint and oil stay behind — a leak in transit ruins whatever is packed around it. Open or perishable food, plants, and anything living are yours. So are the things you will want that first night and the things you would not hand to anybody: passports, medication, jewellery, keys, chargers, the paperwork for the move itself.

And we will ask rather than assume. If a cupboard is half sorted or a room is full of things you have not decided about, tell us and we will leave it. Crews who pack everything in sight are how people end up unwrapping a bin in their new kitchen.

Where the Fragile Things Go

A part pack does not mean the delicate things get a worse deal — it means you choose who handles them. Our fragile packing service covers glassware, china, mirrors and pictures, wrapped individually and packed upright in the cartons made for them, and it can sit inside the same booking as the non-fragile work with the same crew.

Anything genuinely valuable is a different conversation again. Antiques, fine art and pieces that would be hard to replace are handled by our own people rather than passed on — we are a LAPADA Approved Service Provider, and our antiques service explains how that works. Flag those at the survey and they are planned for properly rather than met on the day.

Non-Fragile Packing Service — Your Questions Answered

Less work costs less, so yes — but it is quoted on what we are actually packing rather than off a list, because two houses of the same size hold completely different amounts. At the survey we go room by room and agree what falls to us and what you are keeping. You get one written figure for that split before anything is booked, and it does not move afterwards.

Counter-intuitively, the boring half. Books, linen, kitchen cupboards and the garage are the majority of a move by box count and the bulk of the physical work — and they are the boxes people underestimate most. The fragile things are fewer, slower and more nerve-racking, which is why a lot of customers hand us the bulk and then decide separately whether to do the glassware themselves or add fragile packing.

At the survey, easily — that is what it is for. Afterwards, tell us as early as you can. Adding a room is usually straightforward if there is time to plan the crew for it; deciding on the morning that you have not finished the loft is the version that costs everybody. If in doubt, hand over more rather than less: it is far easier to leave something out than to add it on the day.

Tell us the day before rather than on the doorstep and it is usually recoverable — we can often pack the rest, and it is better than a van waiting. What we cannot do is load boxes that are open, overfilled or unlabelled, because they are the ones that fail on a staircase. Realistically: give yourself twice the time you think the last room needs.

Yes — our own cartons and materials come with the crew and there is nothing for you to buy or collect for our half. If you want the same materials for the part you are doing yourself, you can get them from our box shop so the whole load is the same system, which makes the van pack better and the unloading quicker.

Yes — a room-by-room split works as well as a fragility one, and for some houses it is the more sensible cut. The kitchen and the garage are the two rooms people most often regret taking on themselves: one is full of awkward shapes and the other is full of heavy, dirty, unpredictable things. Tell us which rooms you want covered and we will quote it that way.

It helps at the start, so you can point out what is staying and answer questions about anything unusual. After that you do not need to hover. Most people use the time to deal with the things only they can — utilities, keys, schools, the paperwork — which is generally a better use of the day than wrapping saucepans.

Yes, with the room it came from and the room it is going to, which are not always the same on a move. That labelling is what makes the unload quick and it is what an unpacking service runs on afterwards. If you are packing part of it yourself, label yours the same way and the whole load behaves as one.

Yes. A part pack suits a business move well — staff clear their own desks and personal things, and we take the files, the kitchen, the store cupboard and everything nobody wants to own. See commercial removals for how we plan the wider job around your trading hours.
